PWP Industries Wins 2007 Consumer Packaging Awards!

VERNON, CA . – October 15, 2007 -- With a theme of “Adapting to Form the Future,” the 17th Annual Society of Plastics Engineers’ (SPE) Thermoforming Conference unveiled the winners of the 17th Annual Thermoforming Parts Competition. The conference took place in Cincinnati from September 16-19 at the Duke Energy Convention Center. This is an international competition, representing the best of Thermoforming from around the globe.

PWP Industries won two awards in the thin gauge, roll feed consumer category. They include the Silver Award for “Tamper-Resistant™ Packaging” as well as the Bronze Award for the “Dip-n-Go™ Package”.

Silver Award: Tamper-Resistant™ (TR) Package is a one-piece hinged container thermoformed of PET that provides visual evidence of tampering. It achieves this by use of pull-open tabs that must be separated before the package is opened. Once separated, the TR tabs do not fit back together, although the lid provides adequate resealing when re-closed. The benefit of the design, is no need for shrink bands or extra wraps for product safety.

Bronze Award Winner: Dip-N-Go™, is a two-piece hinged, single-serve container for food and dip. Formed from PET or PP, the dip cup can be inserted into the lid, which attaches to the container by a perforated hinge, doubles as the lid. A consumer flips open the lid, tears it off at the perforation and snaps it onto a groove on the container lip for easy access to food and dip. The package has pull-open tamper-resistant™ tabs that separate before opening. Once separated, the tabs do not fit back together. This feature eliminates the need for tamper-resistant wraps or shrink band.

“We are pleased to have received these Consumer Packaging Awards for our Tamper-Resistant ™ Food Packaging,” said Terry Vovan, Director of New Product Development for PWP. “We will keep focusing on developing new product innovations that will motivate and grow the plastic thermoforming industry.”

The uniqueness of the product and forming process were key’s in the selection process. PWP’s Tamper-Resistant™ packages offer maximum food safety and product integrity. The containers offer a convenient way to assure the consumer that package contents have not been tampered with prior to purchase or consumption. Additionally, the packaging products include unique leak-resistant and resealable features that help retain product freshness.

The objective of SPE is to promote the scientific and engineering knowledge relating to plastics. Every day the SPE helps people and companies in the plastics industry succeed by spreading knowledge, strengthening skills, and promoting plastics. The Thermoforming Parts Competition was open to all thermoformed components from processors, designers, toolmakers and OEMs. The judging of the competition took place onsite during the conference, and judging criteria was based on creativity, originality, design complexity, surface finish, secondary operations, technical difficulty, and innovation.
